Employees are invited to attend a retirement planning forum at City Hall Annex on Tuesday, March 14th from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Speakers include Sheila Keady Rawson, City Personnel Director; Ellen Philbin, Executive Director of the Cambridge Retirement System and Kristen Albertino from the Social Security Office. Due to the snowstorm, the Retirement Office will be closed on Thursday, February 9. At this time, we expect to reopen for our usual hours on Friday.
1099-R forms were mailed on January 23, 2017. All retirees and all members who took refunds in 2016 will receive a form. In most cases, this must be included on your 2017 Federal tax return. It is not neccessary to include this income on a Massachusetts State income tax return. Please feel free to call the office with any questions about your form, or to notify us if you do not receive your form by January 30.

It is hereby determined that Francis E. Murphy III was the only candidate to have submitted valid nomination papers for election to the Cambridge Retirement Board. Therefore, at the meeting of the Cambridge Retirement Board held on Monday, August 1, 2016, the Board voted to declare that Francis E. Murphy III be considered elected to the Cambridge Retirement Board and that no election shall be held. His term will commence on October 1, 2016 and expire on September 30, 2019. He will serve in all respects as though he had been elected by election.
An election is to be held on September 26, 2016 for the purpose of electing a member or retiree of the Cambridge Retirement System to serve on the Cambridge Retirement Board for a term of three (3) years, said term to commence on October 1, 2016.
All holding membership in the Cambridge Retirement System may qualify as a candidate by filing with the Cambridge Retirement Board a nomination paper containing the signatures and addresses of at least twenty (20) members and/or retirees of this system.
The Cambridge Retirement Board has approved a COLA, which will be effective on July 1, 2016. The Board voted to approve a COLA of 3%, based on the first $14,000 of earnings. This is the maximum amount currently authorized by law. Retirees will see the increase in the payments issued at the end of July.
