As as December 17, 2020, the Cambridge Retirement Board will be moving to a new location. Our new office is just across the street from our old location. We are asking that you do not come to visit the new location yet.

The Cambridge Retirement System is looking for applicants interested in serving as the 5th member of the Retirement System. The 5th member works with the other four members to ensure that the Retirement System is run in accordance with MGL Chapter 32 as well as local board procedures and policies. Applicants for the 5th member seat may not be an employee, retiree, or official of the City of Cambridge. There is a monthly stipend of $375.00 for Board members. Cambridge resident preferred.
The Cambridge Retirement Office is still working normal hours in order to perform all necessary functions. Since the onset of the pandemic, the retirement office has made all payments to retirees and beneficiaries on time. We have also processed applications from 51 new retirees since March.
We are experiencing issues with our telephone system at the retirement office. Calls to the office may not go through. Please email a staff member for the quickest response until the phones are repaired.
At the meeting of the Cambridge Retirement Board held on, April 13, 2020, it was voted to postpone the next election for a seat on the Retirement Board. The term for the seat currently held by John Shinkwin is due to expire on, July 31, 2020. After consulting with PERAC, our regulatory agency, it was voted that the election should be postponed in the interests of safety. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, PERAC advised that it would not be appropriate to encourage candidates to gather signatures and campaign for an election. Pursuant to state law, Mr.
Annual statements were mailed during the week of April 13 for all members with funds in the Cambridge Retirement System. Please review your statement carefully, particularly noting that your service time, part time/full time status, and your beneficiary selection are correct. In order to try to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Cambridge Retirement Office is asking all members and retirees to minimize in-person contact with our staff. All staff members will remain available by phone and email, and this is the best way to contact us and have any questions answered.
Monthly payments to retirees will be made on-time. For retirees on direct deposit, funds will be available in your bank account on Tuesday, March 31.
1099-R forms were mailed on Tuesday, January 28. All retirees, beneficiaries and members who took refunds in 2019 should receive a form. Please call the office to notify us if you do not receive your form by Februay 7.
Direct deposit dates for 2020 have now been set. As always, deposits will be available on the last business day of every month. We have posted a calendar of depoit dates here.
The Cambridge Public Employees Dental and Vision Fund currently has a vacancy for the Employee Trustee position for a participant in the Fund who’s a retired employee.
