The Cambridge Retirement System is looking for applicants interested in serving as the 5th member of the Retirement System. The 5th member works with the other four members to ensure that the Retirement System is run in accordance with MGL Chapter 32 as well as local board procedures and policies. Applicants for the 5th member seat may not be an employee, retiree, or official of the City of Cambridge. There is a monthly stipend of $375.00 for Board members. Cambridge resident preferred.

The Cambridge Retirement Office is still working normal hours in order to perform all necessary functions.  Since the onset of the pandemic, the retirement office has made all payments to retirees and beneficiaries on time.  We have also processed applications from 51 new retirees since March.

At the meeting of the Cambridge Retirement Board held on, April 13, 2020, it was voted to postpone the next election for a seat on the Retirement Board.  The term for the seat currently held by John Shinkwin is due to expire on, July 31, 2020.  After consulting with PERAC, our regulatory agency, it was voted that the election should be postponed in the interests of safety.  Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, PERAC advised that it would not be appropriate to encourage candidates to gather signatures and campaign for an election.  Pursuant to state law, Mr.

In order to try to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Cambridge Retirement Office is asking all members and retirees to minimize in-person contact with our staff.  All staff members will remain available by phone and email, and this is the best way to contact us and have any questions answered.

Monthly payments to retirees will be made on-time.  For retirees on direct deposit, funds will be available in your bank account on Tuesday, March 31.

1099-R forms were mailed on Tuesday, January 28.  All retirees, beneficiaries and members who took refunds in 2019 should receive a form.  Please call the office to notify us if you do not receive your form by Februay 7.
